The early bird gets the worm, or in this case, the beer.
Boulevard Brewing Co.’s newest beer is Early Riser, a 5.2 percent ABV porter brewed with pale, caramel and chocolate malts along with magnum and bravo hops. Ground Columbian Cauca Cojibio Estate coffee sourced from Kansas City, Mo.-based Maps Coffee Roasters was then added to the tanks that held the finished beer, allowing both to meld together.
“Since we were dealing with finished beer that was chilled, the extraction mimicked the process employed for brewing cold brewed or toddy coffee,” reads a press release. “The lower temperature results in an extraction of beautiful flavor and aroma from oils in the coffee without the acidity associated with a typical brew.”
According to the press release, Early Riser will be packaged in six-packs of 12-ounce bottles that are scheduled to begin shipping to retailers on Jan. 12.
