The new year will bring a new bottle release for Boulevard Brewing Co.

The beer in question is Rye On Rye On Rye, a 14.6 percent ABV “rich, tawny” rye ale aged in freshly emptied Templeton Rye whiskey barrels before being transferred for a secondary aging to a completely different batch of first use Templeton Rye whiskey barrels.

In an email, Jeremy Danner, ambassador brewer at Boulevard, told Tenemu that the average time the beer was aged in the first barrels was in the six to twelve month range” while the second aging constituted “around three months.”

The barrel-aged ale was first released by the Kansas City, Mo.-based brewery as a draft-only option earlier this year.

According to Danner, Rye On Rye On Rye will be packaged in 750ml bottles as well as 1/6 bbl kegs and is scheduled to be released in early January 2017, with distribution going to “cities that normally see our other special release beers like Saison-Brett or Love Child blends.”
