Next month, Boulevard Brewing Co. will be releasing a brand new variant in its Limited Release Series.
Rye on Rye Maple is a 13.2 percent ABV ale brewed with German rye, English crystal rye, Cara 50 and Munich malt, brown sugar, dark brown sugar and dark candi syrup as well as maple syrup before being aged in barrels that previously held Templeton Rye whiskey. Rye on Rye Maple is newest addition to Boulevard’s 2020 Limited Release Series, which includes a number of beers packaged in both 12-ounce and 750ml bottles, including Love Child, Changling Dark Sour Ale and Saison Brett.
The final beer was aged in four different ways before being blended together:
- 31 percent aged in Templeton Rye Maple Cask Finish barrels
- 35 percent aged in Templeton 4 year barrels
- 27 percent aged in Templeton 4 year barrels with Maple syrup added after 8 months
- 7 percent 2018 Rye on Rye, double barrel-aged
As the name suggests, the base beer for the new release is the Kansas City, Mo.-based brewery’s Rye on Rye, a 12 percent ABV ale that has had a number of variants released since it debuted, including Rye-on-Rye “X” Sazerac Cocktail (11 percent ABV), Rye on Rye on Rye on Rye and Rye On Rye On Rye (14.5 percent ABV.)
According to a post on Boulevard’s website, Rye on Rye Maple will be packaged in four-packs of 12-ounce bottles that are schedule to be released in the greater Kansas City area on April 6, followed by “other regions in our distribution footprint…in the coming weeks.”
