One of Boulevard Brewing Co.’s most popular collaborations is not being brewed this year.
According to a post on the Kansas City, Mo.-based brewery’s Twitter page, Chocolate Ale is “on vacation” and will not be brewed in 2017. The 9.1 percent ABV ale is a collaboration with chocolatier Christopher Elbow that debuted in 2011 as part of Boulevard’s Smokestack Series, which includes both limited releases and year-round beers packaged in both 750ml bottles and 12-ounce bottles.

In Jan. 2016, Boulevard added Chocolate Ale with Raspberry to the Smokestack Series, which as its name suggests, was a a variation of Chocolate Ale brewed with cacao nibs and raspberry purée.
Although Chocolate Ale will not be released this year, the tweet does leave the option open to rerelease it in future, saying that “We haven’t made any firm decisions for 2018 and beyond.”
