A new creation coming next week from Boulevard Brewing Co. is a blend of five different imperial stouts aged in five different barrels.

Imperial Cask Cuvée is a 13.8 percent ABV imperial stout brewed with three hop and five malts. The blended beer was then aged in five different barrels from eight months to “almost two years” before being packaged:

  • 18 percent was aged in barrels that previously held Templeton Rye Whiskey
  • 23 percent was aged in barrels that previously held Madeira wine
  • 59 percent was aged in a combination of bourbon barrels that previously held Buffalo Trace, Basil Hayden’s, and Heaven Hill bourbon

“The idea for this beer is taking the finest stouts that we’ve made in the past and blending them up to make the best stout/beer possible,” reads a post on Boulevard’s website. “Blending is how Steven and I believe you make good stouts: from the layering of different flavors. You get more nuances or textures of flavors from blending, and that’s why we are combining recipes.”

According to Boulevard, Imperial Cask Cuvée will be packaged in four-packs of 12-ounce bottles that are scheduled to be released in “the Kansas City area” on Dec.7, with “other markets to follow.”
