An extremely popular variant of Firestone Walker Brewing Co.’s Parabola barrel-aged stout is returning just in time for Christmas.
Parabajava 2019 is a 13.2 percent ABV Russian imperial stout that uses a “special selection” of the Paso Robles, Calif.-based brewery’s popular Parabola stout (14 percent ABV) that was aged in bourbon barrels. The stout is then conditioned on freshly roasted coarse ground Ethiopian coffee beans sourced from Spearhead Coffee in Paso Robles.
Parabajava debuted as a draft-only option created for Firestone Walker’s Father’s Day brunch in 2013 held at Lot 613 in Los Angeles and was bottled for the first time in November 2015 with re-releases in August 2017 and December 2018. In addition, the brewery has either released, announced or is working on a number of new Parabola variants in the past year, including Scotch Parabola, Coconut Rye Parabola and the draft-only Parabanilla.
In an email, Jemma Wilson, media manager for Firestone Walker, told Tenemu that Parabajava 2019 will be packaged in 12-ounce bottles ($10.99) that is currently scheduled to be released exclusively at the brewery’s Buellton, Paso Robles and Venice locations in “mid-December” and will not have a purchase limit.
