According to labels filed with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), Ballast Point Brewing Co. is preparing to launch a barrel-aged version of its imperial red ale.

Bourbon Barrel-Aged Tongue Buckler will be a 12 percent ABV imperial red ale aged for eight months in bourbon barrels that previously held High West bourbon and packaged in 750ml bottles. As the name indicates, the new beer uses the San Diego-based brewery’s Tongue Buckler red ale as its base, a beer that debuted in 2010 and comes in at 10 percent ABV.

The new ale will be part of Ballast Point’s Trade Street Collection Series, which is named after the site of the brewery’s barrel-aging cellar and is made up of various barrel-aged beers.

An email to the brewery for additional information was not immediately returned.
