The newest Barrel-Aged Series release from Avery Brewing Co. is inspired by the mint julep cocktail.
The new beer from the Boulder, Colo.-based brewery is named Certatio Equestris, a 6.2 percent ABV sour ale brewed with imported Belgian malted barley before being aged in bourbon barrels with spearmint added. In addition, the beer incorporates a combination of saccharomyces, brettanomyces drie, lactobacillus and pediococcus yeasts.
According to a post on Avery’s website, Certatio Equestris will be bottled in 12-ounce bottles and was packaged on June 14, with 732 cases available. In addition, the new beer will have a one case per person purchase limit when it is released at the brewery on June 19, and bottles will be sent to retailers in Avery’s distribution network following the event.
