A new addition to Avery Brewing Co.’s year-round lineup is named after the ancient Roman goddess of fruitful abundance.

Pomona is a 6.5 percent ABV tart ale brewed with Saccharomyces yeast, Brettanomyces yeast, Lactobacillus, and Pediococcus before being aged in oak barrels for four months. The ale is then conditioned on “bushels” of a combination of pomegranates and blueberries.

The ale was originally created for the Avery Invitational Small Batch Challenge, but this is the first time it has been packaged.

According to a press release from Avery, Pomona will be sold in six-packs of 12-ounce cans and is scheduled to begin shipping to retailers across the brewery’s entire distribution network in “mid-August.”
