The wait is almost over for Allagash Brewing Co.’s St. Klippenstein.

The new beer is a Belgian-style strong stout aged for three months in bourbon barrels with a 9 percent ABV. The first real hints about this beer’s flavor came from Allagash’s Twitter post on Oct. 13.

A second tasting of the beer was recounted on Allagash’s Instagram account on Nov. 5, stating “Rich cocoa brown in color, the first sip of this beer opens with a complex chocolate and roasted aroma. Notes of vanilla, coconut and oak infuse the palate and lead to a smooth, warm finish.“

According to an Allagash employee, the beer is likely to hit shelves across its entire distribution area, which currently encompasses 17 states, in late December or early January.
