Happy birthday Allagash Brewing Co. Or is it happy anniversary?
Each year, to commemorate selling its first beer in July 1995, Allagash brews a Fluxus ale. A fitting name since fluxus is Latin meaning continuous change. To this end, Allagash changes the recipe each year having released styles ranging from a porter to a bière de garde
since the Fluxus series begain in 2007.
Per a recently approved label by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), 2016 Fluxus Ale is a saison that uses the Portand, Maine brewery’s base malt, malted rye, malted wheat, noble hops with ginger root added in the whirlpool. The brew is then partially aged in Barr Hill Tom Cat Gin oak barrels from neighboring Caledonia Spirits in Vermont. These botanical flavors coalesce into a saison settling in nicely at 7.7 percent ABV.
Available in the Maine area on draft and in limited quantities, only 250 barrels produced, of 750ml bottles arriving to all the brewery’s usual outlets in July. A community focused brewery, $1 from every bottle sold of Allagash Tribute Series Fluxus beer has been donated to a scholarship fund for pediatric nurses in the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at the Maine Medical Center.
Updated 4-28 to include barrels produced.
