According to labels filed with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), Founders Brewing Co. is working on releasing Oktoberfest 2021, a 6 percent ABV German-style Märzen ale that will be packaged in 12-ounce bottles.
A beer under the same name was released on Sept. 27, 2019, as part of the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based brewery’s Mothership Series, which consists of releases that have been “brought out of retirement” or “experimental new styles.”
The ale was then rereleased last year and packaged in 12-ounce cans.
As with the previous releases, this newest incarnation is brewed with imported German malts and hops as well as lager yeast and adhered to the Reinheitsgebot, the German purity law originated in 1487 that states the only ingredients to be used in the production of beer are water, barley and hops.
The law was replaced by the Provisional German Beer Law in 1993, which allows some ingredients not permitted in the Reinheitsgebot, including wheat malt, sugar, and yeast.
An email sent to the brewery for additional information was not immediately returned.
