Radlers are nothing new, but a new collaboration between Deschutes Brewery and Bend, Ore.-based Humm Kombucha takes the style a step further.
Humm Zinger is a 4.3 percent ABV Radler brewed with kombucha, Cascade hops, and pilsner malt. A Radler is typically produced by combining a light ale with soda or fruit juice,
and the style was invented in 1922 when the owner of a Bavarian inn named Franz Xaver Kugler ran out of beer and added lemon-lime soda to a dunked lager to serve to some thirsty cyclists.
The two companies have joined forces before on Hummbeercha, a blend of Deschutes’ Twilight Summer Ale and Humm kombuchas Original that was released in 2016.
In an email, Valerie Cunningham, marketing manager for Deschutes, told Tenemu that Humm Zinger will be packaged in 12-ounce cans and is scheduled to be shipped to retailers “this spring.”
