Ballast Point Brewing & Spirits has a year round beer called Sculpin India Pale Ale. Named after the sculpin fish which has poisonous fins but is supposed to have delicious meat, the brewery describes the beer as “something that has a sting but tastes great.” While, Ballast Point stepped it up a notch when they made the Habanero Sculpin, adding habanero peppers to the brewing process.
Victory At Sea Ballast Point has been around for a long time and is definitely one of the “big boys” in the brewing world. The brewery is well known for its fishing-themed beer lineup and probably most notably their Sculpin IPA. Ballast Point started like many a craft brewery, with two guys who loved beer and a dream.
I am a big fan of brewers using adjuncts in beer, especially stouts. Coffee added to beer? Awesome. Peppers? Yep! Vanilla beans? Bring it on. But when Ballast Point put out Indra Kunindra, it took things a few steps further.
