The next three Bishop’s Barrel releases from Saint Arnold Brewing Co. include a barrel-aged barleywine, a barrel-aged dubbel and a barrel-aged adambier.

According to labels filed with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), Bishop’s Barrel 15 will be a barleywine aged in rye whiskey barrels. This is not the first time that the Houston, Texas-based brewery has used a barrel-aged barleywine for the series, after Bishop’s Barrel 10 (12.7 percent ABV) was released released last year, although that beer was aged in Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels.

In addition, Bishop’s Barrel 16 will be dubbel-style ale aged in red wine barrels with brettanomyces, while Bishop’s Barrel 17 will be an adambier-style ale that has been aged in bourbon barrels.

Saint Arnold’s Bishop’s Barrel Series is a way for the brewery to “experiment with pairing our ales with a variety of different barrels, fruits or whatever else our fancy” and are aged in various barrels “anywhere from a few months to well over a year.” The first beer in the series was released in 2012 and bottles are sold exclusively in bars and restaurants across the brewery’s distribution network.
