This weekend Firestone Walker Brewing Co. will be releasing its next Proprietor’s Vintage Series beer.

The Paso Robles, Calif.-based brewery will be releasing Velvet Merkin 2017, an 8.5 percent ABV oatmeal stout brewed with fuggle hops as well as maris otter, 2-row pale, roast barley, English dark caramel, medium caramel and carafe malt malts before being “aged for a full year in retired spirits barrels from Heaven Hill, Woodford Reserve and others.” The stout originally debuted in 2008, but was first bottled as part of Firestone Walker’s Vintage Series in 2013.

In addition, while Velvet Merkin and the other members of the Proprietor’s Vintage Series have historically been packaged in 22-ounce bottles, all of the releases will be sold in smaller 12-ounce bottles in 2017.

According to a post on Firestone Walker’s Facebook page, Velvet Merkin 2017 will be packaged in 12-ounce bottles ($9.99) and will be available at all Firestone locations beginning Sept. 30, “with limited distribution beginning in the coming weeks.”
