In honor of International Women’s Day, March 8, Oskar Blues Brewery created an opportunity to honor the contributions women make to the craft beer industry.
This contribution in particular is a “distinctly American” cream ale called SHE’Boogie Bop, developed by a team of four women. Real vanilla beans and lavender are added after the main fermentation of a grain bill including corn, wheat and pilsner malt. Cascade hops provide flavor and bitterness while the Huell Melon hops add aroma. The beer clocks in at 5.5 percent ABV.
The team members were brewer Diana Locatelli, cellar workers Kristin Hubbard and Sara Laurienti and Lauren Lacquerer, a brewer’s assistant. The group brought more than a dozen years of combined industry experience to brainstorm ideas, build a recipe and execute the beer.
Oskar Blues made it possible for the four ladies who created SHE’Boogie Bop, to work together since their regular duties would not provide the space for collaboration on a new beer. Production was “hosted by Head Brewer Juice Drapeau at the original brewpub in Lyons, Colo.” according to a press release.
In an email to Tenemu, the limited release of the 10 barrels of SHE’Boogie Bop will be “released only at Colorado OBB locations in half barrel kegs. It is kegs only – no cans” said Ally Levise, The Little Merchmaid for Oskar Blues Brewery.
Update (March 11, 2017) – This article was updated to include additional brewing information and details on availability.
