After 10 years as the head brewmaster at Stone Brewing Co., Mitch Steele is leaving.

In an announcement on its Facebook page, the Escondido, Calif.-based brewery thanked Steele for his years of service, and posted a video of the brewmaster talking about his time with the brewery.

“After ten incredible years as our brewmaster, we’ll be saying a bittersweet goodbye to Mitch Steele later this month,” reads the post on Stone’s Facebook page. “While we’re very sorry to see him leave # TeamStone , we’re extremely excited to follow him in his next venture. Thanks for a decade of amazing #craftbeer , Mitch!”

Steele joined Stone in 2006 and was the brewmaster of the brewery for some it’s most popular releases, including Enjoy By IPA and Sublimely Self Righteous Black IPA. He also wrote a book about American IPAs during his stint at Stone titled IPA: Brewing Techniques, Recipes and the Evolution of India Pale Ale that was released in 2012.

According to the video posted on Facebook, Steele’s last day at Stone will be June 30, and he is leaving to become a partner in a new venture. An email sent to the brewery for additional information about a replacement was not immediately returned.
