A meteoric rise to a place in history is one way to describe the trajectories of both Mikkel Borg Bjergsø and Rick Astley. The former launched the first of five Mikkeller bars in 2010, and has arguably produced some of the world’s greatest beers in the process. The latter blew up the 1980’s pop charts with the single “Never Gonna Let You Down” and is still selling out venues 30 years later.
Astley’s Northern Hop is a red lager with hints of ginger, paying homage to Astley’s pre-performance beverage of choice. The 330ml beer is brewed in Belgium at De Proef Brouwerij.
On April 13, in connection with a performance by Astley at Royal Albert Hall, the beer will release at the Shepherds Bush location of London-based Draft House.
After that, distribution of the beer will widen through Mikkeller’s network in addition to sales by The Bottle Shop UK.
