A new series from Funky Buddha Brewery is made up of beers aged exclusive in oak wine and spirits casks.

Dubbed The Living Barrel Series, there will be three releases before the end of August: Rum Barrel-Aged Pina Colada, an imperial cream ale brewed with real pineapple and coconut before being aged in Jamaican rum casks for “months”; Vanilla Bourbon Barrel-aged Nikolai Vorlauf, and imperial Russian stout conditioned on whole vanilla beans and aged for “nearly two years” in bourbon barrels and Bourbon Barrel-Aged Dread Pirate Roberts, an imperial stout bred with with raspberries, chocolate, and coconut.

“As Funky Buddha has grown so has its barrel-aging program, reads a press release. “Our current barrel cellar consists of over five hundred oak casks of all types. On the floor right now are hundreds of Bourbon barrels filled with everything from imperial stout to double brown ales; saisons aging in Chardonnay casks; and a multitude of unique wine and spirits casks including rum, tequila, and even luscious Cabernet.”

According to a press release, all three new beers will be packaged in 22-ounce bottles. Rum Barrel-Aged Pina Colada and Vanilla Bourbon Barrel-aged Nikolai Vorlauf are scheduled to be released between the end of July and late August, while Bourbon Barrel-Aged Dread Pirate Roberts will be sold exclusively to the brewery’s Imperial Club members in August, although any remaining bottles will hit distribution after that.
