Another craft brewery has been purchased, but this time the buyer is not as well known.

Japan-based Sapporo Holdings Limited will be acquiring all of the equity in Anchor Brewing Co., although the San Francisco-based brewery will remain an independent operation, with products, management and employees remaining the same. According to a press release, the agreement was executed today, and equity is set to be transferred on Aug. 31, 2017.

Founded in 1876, Sapporo Breweries Ltd. is the oldest brand of beer in Japan. Anchor Brewing Co. was founded in 1896 and produced approximately 1.75 million cases of beer in 2016 and sales of approximately $33 million.
