For the second year in a row, 3 Floyds Brewery, the band Mastodon and Dark Matter Coffee are releasing a creation for a good cause.
That beer is Crack The Skye, an 11 percent ABV imperial stout brewed with Dark Matter Coffee before being aged in bourbon barrels. Originally debuting in 2016, the stout is a collaboration that is named after the Mastodon album Crack The Skye, which was dedicated to the Skye Dailor, the sister of the band’s drummer Brann Dailor, who committed suicide at the age of 14.

Released during National Suicide Prevention Week that runs from Sept. 5-11, the stout is being sold to raise money for Hope for the Day, an organization that “helps people and families of all shapes and sizes deal with mental health issues and suicide prevention” according to the 3 Floyds website.
According to a post on 3 Floyd’s Instagram page, this year’s incarnation of Crack The Skye will be packaged in 22-ounce bottles ($15) and will feature a four bottle purchase limit per person when it goes on sale on Sept. 10 at the brewery. In addition, Crack The Skye will also see limited distribution.
