What the hell is in Vermont’s water? An easily forgotten about state, once jokingly known to most New Englanders as the Killington Ski Resort state, has emerged as a veritable Shangri-La within the craft beer world. People from around the world plan pilgrimages to Vermont in order to taste some of the renowned fermented liquids from the likes of The Alchemist, Hill Farmstead, and Lawson’s Finest Liquids.
Other Half Brewing Co. is one of only a few breweries located within the Brooklyn borough. Founded in 2014 by Matt Monahan and Sam Richardson, Other Half has been garnering a lot of attention from the citizens of the beer geek realm.
In August Bell’s Brewery Inc. released the first beer in a new limited production line the company is doing based off off Gustav Holst’s orchestral suite called The Planets. Was a band nerd in high school and college, The Planets was one of my favorite performances we did. The first beer, a double India pale ale, is called Mars, The Bringer of War which is name of the first movement of Holst’s suite. Each new beer will be released every two months until the series concludes in 2015.
